Dedicated to Strengthening Ward 4

As your representative, I am committed to creating a safer, more vibrant, and equitable Ward 4 for all residents.

Together, we are building a stronger, more resilient Ward 4—one where everyone has access to opportunity, safety, and a high quality of life.

  • Over the past three years, significant strides have been made in improving public safety, as you’ve addressed both immediate and long-term issues:

    • Police Officer Recruitment & Retention: A 133% increase in police officer applications, coupled with a 22% raise for officers, boosts morale and staffing, which directly impacts safety.

    • Crime Reduction: The reduction of shots fired and gunshot victims in the 4th precinct by 40% since 2021 through initiatives like ShotSpotter, as well as advocating for accountability and reform through state and federal settlements.

    • Reckless Driving Solutions: Pushing for traffic light safety camera pilots to combat dangerous driving and safeguard neighborhoods.

Your work has not only enhanced public safety but also focused on police reform and community accountability, with ongoing efforts to make the city safer for everyone.

  • North Minneapolis has often faced disparities in economic development, but your administration is addressing this with a comprehensive approach:

    • Job Creation & Business Support: Advocating for development projects that bring new jobs, and supporting local entrepreneurs, especially people of color, through training, access to capital, and resources.

    • Affordable Housing & Local Investments: Prioritizing affordable housing, especially for low-income residents, and promoting investments in food services and grocery stores to ensure basic needs are met. Efforts are also in place to combat vacant properties and improve economic vitality in the community.

Your focus on creating equitable access to opportunities for Northside residents, from jobs to affordable housing, ensures that the neighborhood continues to thrive.

  • Addressing livability issues is a key component of a functional city:

    • Basic Neighborhood Needs: Taking proactive measures to address issues like illegal dumping, poorly plowed streets, problem properties, and littering, ensuring residents’ concerns are met and communities are cleaner and safer.

This commitment shows that you’re actively working to enhance the day-to-day experience for residents, ensuring that neighborhoods stay clean, safe, and well-maintained.

  • Public health, particularly in tackling the opioid crisis, has become a major concern, and your leadership focuses on real solutions:

    • Opioid Crisis Response: Tackling the root causes of the opioid epidemic, ensuring culturally competent treatment options are available, and expanding access to Narcan and training, aiming to reduce the devastating impacts on families and communities.

This demonstrates your commitment to the well-being of your community, emphasizing the importance of prevention, treatment, and support for those affected by the opioid epidemic.
